A poem by Sydney Stone. I do not own the image.
For the unclaimed pups I have seen, left on roadsides, that deserved far better.
***
Trained to trust,
Born to run,
Where did you go-
To have your fun?
Why did you leave-
That fateful day?
Leaving your poor, little body,
On display.
Did you trust-
The passing cars?
Did you greet them-
With excited barks?
When you were hit,
I hope that it was quick,
No life-to-death buffer,
Amidst which you’d suffer.
And though I miss you now-
Far more than a smidge,
I know that we will see each other again,
Across the Rainbow Bridge.
