Goodness Remains

Goodness Remains

A poem by Sydney Stone. I do not own the image.

***

New buds slowly spread across the breadth,

Of the sickened, blackened branch,

The rotted core of all devilry,

Finds fresh seedlings in humanity,

But there is yet hope for mankind,

Just look closely, you will find,

The goodness deep within the soul,

And on occasion, breaking the mold,

Into the open for all to see,

Free to all, the only fee-

To act in kind and prove your worth,

Unto death and from your birth,

Just behold the yonder tree,

Though bark is cracked, with shrivelled leaves,

There is yet growth upon the vine,

There to see if youโ€™ve a mind.

Well done. These are two great lines:
โ€œThe rotted core of all devilry,

    Finds fresh seedlings in humanity,โ€
